Money in Art

Money has accompanied people for a long time. It influences our lives, it decides about our success and social standing, and it makes it easier or more difficult to take advantage of life’s opportunities. Therefore it’s no surprise that it arouses strong emotions. The complex nature of money is shown by artists, keen observers of society, who for centuries have used the subject of money to illustrate serious biblical topics, mythological metaphors, secular and religious allegories, and also to provide ethical guidelines hidden in moralizing scenes from the everyday life of different epochs. The Money in Art room reminds us of the good and dark side of money and, more broadly, economics.

An unusual element of the scenery of this room is the illuminated decorative floor with a composition of words describing opposing features – greed-generosity, deception-honesty, avarice-generosity, poverty-wealth. It is up to us to decide to which side the indicator of our own conduct will tilt.
