History

The idea of the Sławomir S. Skrzypek NBP Money Centre was originated by Sławomir S. Skrzypek, the Governor of NBP, who died tragically in the plane crash in Smoleńsk. He masterminded an educational and exhibition facility popularizing economic knowledge with the use of state-of-the-art multimedia techniques.

The NBP Money Centre is a uniquely complex, interdisciplinary project, realized in the very difficult space of Narodowy Bank Polski. The first conceptual work on the new facility began in 2008. Exhibits were gathered and experience was shared with similar institutions operating around the world. Cooperation was established with numerous experts in the field of economics, economic history and the history of money. In the following years, work was carried out on the architectural design of the future facility, a scenario of the exhibition was prepared, and then a contest was conducted in order to select the contractor who would build the Money Centre.

In 2011, the NBP Management Board decided to name the institution after its patron. From that point on, it has been known as the Sławomir S. Skrzypek NBP Money Centre.
